May is Mental Health Awareness Month 5/1/24

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is "Mental Health Awareness" month. Mental Health Awareness Month was established in 1949 to increase awareness of the importance of mental health and wellness, to destigmatize mental health conditions, and to provide resources and information to support individuals and communities who may need mental health support.

If you or a family member wants to be connected to a mental health care provider, contact Care Solace, a complimentary and confidential mental health care coordination service provided by Hanover Public Schools.

  • Call 888-515-0595. Multilingual support is available 24/7/365.
  • Visit CareSolace.com/HanoverSchools and either search on your own OR click “Book Appointment” for assistance by video chat, email, or phone.

Please note that referrals to counseling and mental health support through Care Solace are available for students and their families, as well as staff and their family members.

Need Immediate Help in A Crisis?

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline – Dial or text 988 if you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide or experiencing a mental health crisis and get connected to a trained crisis counselor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Of course, always call 911 if the situation is an emergency.
  • The National Alliance on Mental Illness has additional information and resources regarding mental health conditions and how to seek help.
  • Lastly, please reach out to members of the Hanover Schools Mental Health Team if you are concerned about your child.

In Hanover, we have an opportunity to break the stigma around mental health in our community by talking openly, compassionately, and kindly to one another. Know that it is okay to ask for help and use the resources around you. We want to ensure that those who are struggling know they are not alone.

Sincerely,

Susan Egan, Psy. D.
Director of Behavioral and Mental Health (Pre K-12)
