Cedar School One Book, One School 4/29/24

We are excited to share that the One Book, One School event at Cedar School has officially started! We conducted a school-wide assembly earlier today to kick off the initiative and share some exciting news about what will be taking place between April 29th and May 17th.

Students learned that they would be receiving a copy of the book Merhorses and Bubbles, a story from the Zoey and Sassafras series. Additionally, each student will bring home a few items related to the book today, including bubbles, goggles, and a bookmark. Please know that these items should be in the student’s backpacks as they arrive home today. Thank you to the Cedar PTA and the Hanover Foundation for Educational Enrichment (HFEE) for funding this wonderful experience for our students.

Stories bring people together. The One Book, One School event is a fun way of promoting reading at home. We would appreciate your support at home by reading one chapter each night to your child and sharing thoughts and ideas with them around what was read. At school, students will celebrate and explore the story with their classmates. This particular book will allow many opportunities to talk about showing care for the environment around us.

There is a schedule inside of the book that will help you navigate the next few weeks of reading. The information below should also help as you prepare for this fun school-wide event!

  • Designate 10 minutes a night to read the story to your child(ren).
  • Create a distraction-free environment in order to enjoy the story together.
  • Each family will be reading the same book over the next few weeks.
  • Make reading fun (use a variety of voices, add sounds, vary your pacing).
  • Ask your child(ren) questions about the book.

Finally, we will be celebrating the event with a school-wide celebration during the school day on Friday, May 17, 2024. There will be activities, special events, and one large surprise planned for our students on this day. We are encouraging students to wear sneakers and comfortable clothes in order to participate in all activities. We will share more information as we get closer to the scheduled date.

Happy Reading!
